The spousal unit and I are adapting to the "empty nest syndrome" pretty well. Son #1 has finally made his move to Nashville and son #2 is in Starkville working his co-op job before beginning his junior year this fall at MSU.
The Drive:
The drive to get down here on hwy 49 is unreal. First the come across an eighteen wheeler totally destroyed in the ditch with about 12 service trucks on the scene. Not fifteen more miles down the road , traffic is backed up for miles! We usually take hwy 98 south of Hattiesburg and then take hwy 63 at Lucedale till we reach I10 at Moss Point. This is only about 5-10 minutes longer than taking 98 all the way through Mobile.
We decide to take a late lunch break at Steak & Shake, which is off I10 at I65. Great top for a driving break and a meal. We then decided to bypass the I10 tunnel by taking the old tunnel and re-entering I10 down by the USS Alabama. Glad we did, as the I10 tunnel gets backed up for miles going both ways during the summer.
Once you get to Daphne and Spanish Fort, its smooth sailing, till you approach the Loxley exit. Now you are again in stand still traffic that's headed to/from Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. Patience, my friends, patience.
Driving to Florida was uneventful from there until we reached another grid lock! Florida DOT had put out those electronic signs that said "Left Lane Closed Ahead". A hundred cars are now jockeying to get in the right lane, gridlock! Guess what, the lane was never blocked!
Pageant:
This is the week of the Miss Mississippi Pageant, which in past years has been streamed on the internet all week, but not this year. Our friend Shelby Corn was a contestant again this year, and the spousal unit was not about to miss it this year. We got to our room in time for her to get her computers up and running. She was using two computers and two Iphones trying to keep up with it!
Dinner out was not happening! That $20 pizza from Pizza Hut Delivery was fine! While the spousal unit was being entertained by the pageant, I got busy with Rita!
Pageant results were disappointing, but I was feeling fine!
